Exciting news – I have a solo show opening soon at Natlab in Eindhoven. It’s called Time Frames, and is based on my 2023 live video essay of the same name. It’s about time. The show features two video...

This is a sketch video I made a year ago, but didn’t get round to posting. There isn’t much to say about it – the footage is of the walking section of my commute – besides that it wouldn’t look the...

This is a quick video, re-using some footage of walking through Rotterdam (previously seen here). It’s fairly simple, didn’t take long to make, but it’s always satisfying to spend a bit of the day...

Not so happy with this, but only had a little time to make it today. Making an old video of running in the snow into something abstract – and playing with the idea of Shepherd Tones, but somehow...

2022.09.29 Quick video: wide journeys
I made three quick experimental videos the other day with footage from train journeys in three different countries. Note, they are all extremely wide, so it might be hard to make them play on a phone....

Very quick video made in Blender, moving a virtual camera through a field of semi-transparent video planes at high speed. This is an incomplete sketch of a project from years ago, which I’ve just...

Another quick video, this time playing with displacement on an archival image of Chicago, plucked from the Flickr Creative Commons. The setup for animating the displacement is a bit finickity, but I...

This is a set of quick sketches in Blender. I’m intrigued by the ability to project images and film onto surfaces, which is especially interesting if the original movie contains movement. I started...

It’s been a while since I posted any of my quick video experiments. This month I’ve been learning a load of new techniques in Blender, which is just incredible software. First up, here’s a video of the...

This is a quick video of some coral, overlaid with some more coral, and more coral, and even more coral. Nothing particularly special; it’s weird and pulsing because it’s 240fps footage which must...

Today’s quick video – a looping clip of driving along a highway in Seoul. My PhD supervisor Stephen Gage calls this type of thing a ‘finger exercise’, I assume because it’s like practicing scales on a...

2022.02.22 Quick video: Walking to Delftse Poort
This is my quick video for the day, shot whilst walking from Rotterdam Centraal station to Delftsepoort (an office building). The subject is fairly mundane, but there are a few layers of square video...

This is a video I made a while but forgot to put online! An extremely foggy day, under a bridge near my house. Looking back at it now, it’s a bit more stress-inducing than I think it needs to be,...

This is a quick doodle-video to play around with composition and looping. The source video was shot on Tottenham Court Road on a sunny day in 2014 (see here); this version tries to lean into the...

A very quick video edit today, compiled from some footage I shot a few years ago whilst flying over northern Canada. Not a great video, but I wanted to play with the stark textures of the snow and...

Maintaining my streak of making quick videos on a near-daily basis, here are two videos of impossible journeys on the Chicago L-train. Shot in 2016, now spliced into infinite (and impossible) loops in...

This is the quick film I should have made yesterday – very quick and simple, a looping set of wires – but instead spent too long fiddling around with layers and composition, etc. Shot on the same...
